Shadow of Morrowind was originally a mod that was added to the older version of Skyrim in 2013. It included the entire province of Morrowind, not just the area we explored in The Elder Scrolls 3. This was mainly Vvardenfell’s island. After the eruption of Red Mountain and other disasters, it’s been 200 years since that time. It is a very different place.
Unfortunately, Shadow of Morrowind’s original version has not been updated since 2014. The Beyond Skyrim mod will eventually cover Morrowind, but Shadow of Morrowind was revived by modders iHurting & Morrigan, who port it to Skyrim Special Edition. Download Shadow of Morrowind SE at NexusMods.
Version 0.1 is the current build and includes Vvardenfell as well as the western portion. There are currently no quests, and followers and NPCs will be acting sour if there is no navmesh. However, the space itself can still be reached by boat from Solstheim, or on land via Dunmeth Pass to the east.
“While a feature-complete Shadow of Morrowind is still a long way off, we hope that new releases will be available regularly to you to see our progress.” The Elder Scrolls Online will integrate parts of the Morrowind version. The team also notes that although we don’t intend for any existing lore to be directly contradicted, it is impossible to guarantee that the 4E Morrowind version that you see will be identical. If you hate it, trust Kirkbride, the contradiction is the canon.
Skywind, who is the mod that recreates The Elder Scrolls 3 within Skyrim seems to be going strong. A tour of last December’s Creation Mod Con is available.
